About the Firm
KDCR Partners is a bipartisan, women-owned federal government affairs firm in Washington, DC. Its principals represent companies, trade associations, and nonprofits before Congress and the executive branch across energy, healthcare, tax and trade, technology, defense, and appropriations. Bloomberg Government has named KDCR a top lobbying firm for seven consecutive years.
Project Overview
KDCR was ready for a website that reflected where the firm is today. We designed and built a new custom WordPress site from the ground up, rebuilt the client portal as a purpose-built plugin, migrated more than 560 client documents and several hundred portal users, and moved the whole thing onto RT7's managed hosting. The new site went live in October 2026, with no downtime for the firm or its clients.
Our Approach
Custom Design & WordPress Theme:
The design leans on the firm's own setting. A cinematic full-bleed hero rotates through public-domain photography of the Capitol and the White House, paired with headline and support copy the firm can edit from the Customizer. Typography is Minion Pro throughout, set against a navy and crimson palette drawn from the firm's print identity. The theme is hand-built with no page builder, so every template, from the advocacy practice areas to the principal bios to the careers page, is fast, lean, and consistent.
Client Portal:
The heart of the project is a login-gated client portal, powered by a single custom plugin we wrote for the firm. Clients sign in and land on a searchable document library organized by category: weekly federal roundups, appropriations and NDAA updates, legislative trackers, congressional hearing summaries filed by committee, event invitations, and resources. Tag chips and search narrow the list in place, and every file is served through a protected download path that cannot be reached without a session. On the admin side, staff drag and drop new documents, assign categories and tags, manage portal users, and post announcements, all without touching the WordPress media library.
Principal Bios & One-Click PDF Builds:
Each of the firm's principals has a structured profile with role, practice areas, prior positions, and education. From that same data, the site generates a styled one-page bio PDF and a combined firm one-pager. When a bio changes, an admin clicks "Rebuild bio PDF" on the edit screen and a background worker regenerates the documents in the firm's typography and brand colors, so the printed materials never drift from the website.
Advocacy, News & Client Pages:
Six practice-area pages present each issue area with its key contacts. A dedicated news-clip type lets the firm log press mentions with a headline and link, and the three most recent surface automatically on the homepage. Client, resources, careers, and contact pages round out the structure the firm asked for.
SEO & Structured Data:
The new theme carries a hand-written SEO layer: per-page titles and descriptions, canonical URLs, Open Graph and Twitter cards with a custom share image, and a JSON-LD graph describing the organization, its services, and each principal. Login, profile, and portal pages are kept out of the index by design.
Performance & Security:
The site runs on RT7's managed infrastructure with a Redis object cache, full-page caching that the theme purges automatically on publish, and the media library offloaded to a Cloudflare R2 CDN. Portal documents are deliberately kept off the CDN and behind the login gate. Logins are rate-limited and logged, and the firm can review sign-in activity from the dashboard.
Migration & Launch:
The rebuild was staged on an RT7 domain for client review through several rounds of design and copy changes. At launch we synced portal users and files one final time, carried the portal protection rules and caching into the production configuration, cut DNS over, and archived the old site for rollback. Clients logged in the next morning to the same credentials and the same documents, in a much better home.
Results
KDCR now has a site that matches the stature of the firm, a client portal its staff can run themselves, and bio and marketing PDFs that stay current without a designer in the loop. RT7 continues to host and maintain the site under a managed care plan.
